4.6.09 2nd Opening Day

Athletics 6 16 1

Cha-ching! Like my parole officer says, 16's a good number, but I think you can do better. He also tells me, if there's grass on the field, play ball which is kinda hypocritical. Go A's!

Oakland Athletics 0-1

4.5.09 Opening Day

Athletics 0 3 0
Angels 3 9 1

The wait is over and after tonight's game I'm wishing I was still waiting. Oh, we're gonna score more runs, they say, it's so great to have Giambi back, it's so great to have Holliday in Oakland, oh it's so great to have Nomar at ___________(you could fill that blank in with anything and you'd probably be right, dude is scheduled to play 1st, 3rd, DH and pitch for all I fucking know). So ummm, guess who got the last 3 outs of the game? Yeah, the aforementioned Larry, Moe and Curly of off season acquisitions. Three hits the entire game, no runs, no fun, a little bit of sun.

The A's had a couple base runners early. Holliday and Chavez had respectable pokes but alas, the pooka shelled, hobo tanned Suzuki was itching to get back into his catcher's gear and hit into a double play. Don't worry, you still need 3 outs before the inning's over, but I was spying on the creepy old midget lady next door who listens to way too much KFOG for my tastes. She literally bumps KFOG.

There was a double steal attempt with Ellis on 2nd and R. Sweeny on 1st (you didn't think it was M. Sweeny, did you?!) and Ellis was easily picked, AT THIRD! He may have stopped for a ham sandwich on the way to third, or maybe a strawberry-kiwi Capri-Sun.

Is Eric Aybar some type of Manny Wanny Be? Dude even looks dopey.

In the 4th Braden get's his first S.O. of the season. Yay? I dunno, I got in a lot of trouser oyster shucking before any mention of an A's S.O. was mentioned.

Ellis attempted a bunt, but lucky for him and his job it rolled foul. Giambi get's hit in the hamhock and Flossy Fossy calls it "good batting by Giambi" which is ironic 'cause he didn't use his bat AND I agree with him. Question. If Giambi's leg broke, do you think Big Macs would pour out? Holliday skys out right before Garciamynameistoolong-uh and Giambi looks like he's gonna pound both of 'em into a mushy protein drink that he'll bottle and drink tomorrow with his 28 pancake breakfast salute. The amazing thing is I've seen Holliday, Garciblahblah, Giambi and we still have power with Chavez and Steroid Dust Cust left in the lineup. What's more amazing is, they're still scoreless!

Braden went 6 innings, 97 pitches and 3ER. He gave up a moon shot to Howie Kendrick to which I asked myself, can this new A's team score 4 runs, let alone 1? (Hint: The answer is no, so far). Relievers Michael Wurtz and Andrew Bailey looked fresh (Bailey is from Vorhees, NJ which just sounds bitchin').

That was really all to be happy about after the first day concluded; the pitching. If the A's score half as many runs as baseball writers say they're gonna, they'll be alright. If they score half as many runs as they scored today, that'd be really bad, 'cause the number would still be zero, and I don't know any game where you get a 'W' with zero. And if there is, I bet that game sucks.
